in today's world, for both visually sighted and visually impaired people, there is no alternative to knowing well how to use a computer and the internet.
does not matter whether the person is a teacher, a banker, a lawyer, or whatever, he must know computer operations, to do his work properly, and to stay connected with the world.
but when a person wishes to build a career with computers, he has to be more specific with the kind of job he wishes to pursue.
this is because the field of information technology is very large, and there are different kinds of professions connected with information technology.
for example, let me list down three different professions:
1, a computer trainer
2, a web designer
3, an application programmer
about a computer trainer:
a computer trainer does not need to kno programming or any kind of scripting.
but he has to kno how to operate many different kinds of hardware and software,
and this makes him a good consultant for purchasers and users.
about a web designer:
he does not need to operate so many different kinds of hardware and software.
he firstly needs to have good theoretical understanding of client-server relations, database management, etc.
and then he needs to kno well a few development tools like html, javascript, php/asp, mySQL, etc.
about an application programmer:
he needs to have some good theoretical understanding of hardware architecture, application-OS relations, client-server relations, database management, etc.
and then a few development tools like visual basic, or java, or c++, microsoft access, or oracle, etc.
so see, how different these professions are in their nature, and yet they are all professions of information technology!
so here is my final advice to all computer enthusiasts, whether sighted, or blind:
it is good to have some introductory idea about anything connected with computers,
but in the long run, one should set his professional goals properly, and develop himself accordingly.
Professional career in information technology has it's own role in their field of expertise. Every one of them has a different functions as it is mentioned earlier in the post. I am so thankful to have this informative post. Thanks!
